About the artist

Steve Rogers has worked in the photographic industry, as a creative colour darkroom technician, for more than twenty years. He is also passionate about underwater photography.

Steve has combined these two skills to produce a series of artistic images of British sea life. He dives exclusively in the waters around the United Kingdom and Ireland, where the sea is always cold, frequently murky and often stormy. Nevertheless, there is an abundance of marine life in these waters: some of it strange, all of it inspiring.

He uses conventional 35 mm underwater cameras to produce photographic negatives which he then scans into a computer, allowing him to manipulate the images. In this way he can enhance the raw material he has captured from the deep and share with the viewer his sense of wonder at the beauties to be found in the seas around the British Isles.
